He was born in the city of Amasya in Turkey. He received his university education in Germany and graduated in economic sciences.

He established his own consultancy company – Extim GmbH in the year of 1993 and has been providing consultancy services to OEMs, suppliers and as well as institutions and government bodies.

Beside his core business activities, he represented the “Turkish Association of Automotive Parts and Components Manufacturers - TAYSAD” in Germany and is currently representing Türkiye’s “Machine Exporters Union” – better known as Turkish Machinery. Since about 10 years Ahmet Yilmaz is expert and senior consultant of UNIDO (United Nations Industrial Development Programme) for supplier development.

Key competencies are: Regional economics, globalization, quality and innovation, digitalization and sustainability.

Ahmet Yilmaz has published numerous articles in different newspapers, magazines and books in three different languages.
