Asiye Karakullukcu is a Turkish entrepreneur who founded Aksense, a company that develops biosensors and devices for the rapid diagnosis of infectious diseases. She received her PhD in Medical Microbiology from Cerrahpasa Medical School at Istanbul University and was later selected to participate in the TUBITAK Innovative Entrepreneurship Training Program, which sparked her interest in entrepreneurship. Karakullukcu's passion for microbiology grew during her time working at the Nature Plants and Aquatic Research Center, and she went on to complete her PhD thesis on the rapid diagnosis of hospital infections. With support from the TUBITAK 1512 BIGG program, she founded Aksense to develop innovative solutions for the rapid diagnosis of infectious diseases, and has received multiple awards and recognition with Aksense. In 2018, Karakullukcu was selected for the Royal Academy of Engineering Leaders of Innovation program in London, where she received accelerated entrepreneurship training. She was also the finalist in the 2018 Turkey Bio Startup program and was awarded the Newton Fund Katip Celebi grant by InnovateUK in 2019. Karakullukcu was accepted into the Entertech ICUBE International Acceleration Program for the UK in 2019 and opened Aksense's London office. Shea seed investment with a valuation of $1.3 millionfrom SOSV VC, one of the world's leading technology investors., and participated in the RebelBio accelerator program in London. She was selected for the 2020 UK Royal Academy of Engineering Leaders of Innovation Advance program and was also one of the semi-finalists at Istanbul Take-Off International Entrepreneurship Summit in 2021. Aksense was selected as one of the top 100 startups among G20 countries, and Karakullukcu was invited to present her success at the 2021 G20 Innovation League held in Italy.
