She graduated from Middle East Technical University, Department of Chemistry in 1997, and get her Ph.D degree in 2004. She took part in a joint study of Istanbul Technical University and METU titled “Synthesis of Conductive Polymers” with a TUBITAK scholarship. She has published 33 articles in international refereed journals and chapters in 4 books in her doctoral and post-doctoral studies. She is Turkish Patent Attorney since 2011 and European Patent Attorney since 2019. She has been teaching course titled "Chemistry and Pharmaceutical Inventions and Intellectual Property" as a part-time lecturer in the Department of Chemistry at METU. She is Associate Professor since 2018. Since 2021, she has been a full-time lecturer in the Department of Chemical Engineering at Istanbul Health and Technology University. In 2022, She founded her own company, Senem Kayahan Patent Consulting Ltd. She is a member of the Patent and Trademark Attorneys' Association and AIPPI.
